Discover Golf : Vol 17
In population and geographical terms, Northern Ireland is not a huge country. However, on the golfing landscape, it’s a giant. There are more than 90 golf courses scattered throughout the compact landmass. Some are considered among the best layouts in the world. Northern Ireland boasts homegrown recent major champions Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell. And, this year, the modest country will host one of the world’s biggest sporting events—The Open Championship. The 148th Open, Portrush tees off on July 16. For just the second time in the Championship’s history, golfers will compete for the Claret Jug outside of England and Scotland. Big crowds are expected to cheer on the game’s best players. This year’s championship promises to be exciting viewing. Stay tuned! For those of you seeking an inspiring destination for your next golfing getaway, look no further than the Emerald Isle. As I recently found out, the island of Ireland offers new places and new experiences to last a lifetime. Starting at Royal Portrush Golf Club, I journeyed along the world-renowned Causeway Coast and Wild Atlantic Way to Carne Golf Links and discovered a land made for golf and sightseeing. And you can too! Here’s to discovering golf and seeing the world.
