Discover Golf : Vol 16
Dreams can come true! Just ask Hannah Green, Jeongeun Lee6 and Gary Woodland who collected their maiden major championships In June. Green, aged 22 from Western Australia, won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship by one shot in an epic final round at Hazeltine National Golf Club just outside Minneapolis. She became just the third Australian woman to earn a major title. Earlier in the month, Korea’s Lee6 produced a two-shot victory at the US Women’s Open in South Carolina. In the men’s game, 35-year-old Woodland scored a solid three-shot victory in the US Open at Pebble Beach. Other big name winners during June from tour events include Rory McIlroy and Lexi Thompson. And, let’s not forget Australia’s Rhein Gibson. The 33-year- old from New South Wales won his maiden Web.com Tour event at the BMW Charity Pro Am. Veteran Australian golfer Jan Stephenson earned arguably the game’s greatest honour by being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. The 67-year-old and three-time major champion joins the distinguished list of a who’s who in golf that includes Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Karrie Webb, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
