Discover Golf : Vol 14
Jack Nicklaus holds the record for winning the most major titles with 18. Tiger Woods now has 15 major victories after capturing his fifth Masters at Augusta. For years, the question has been raised. By the end of their careers, who will own more major titles— Nicklaus or Woods? Many had Woods penciled in after he won the 2008 US Open. It was his 14th major victory. He was just 32 years of age and it appeared he would eclipse Nicklaus’s record. However, the flood of major wins that flowed with such a force soon dried up and was followed by a frustrating 11-year drought. From 2008, Woods career was plagued by injury, personal crisis and a loss of form. During the last decade, most pundits erased the Woods name from consideration of winning another major, let alone passing Nicklaus’s tally of wins. Woods’ recent triumph at Augusta is proof that he still has the thirst to hunt down more major titles in the coming years. He has shown the golfing world that he can once again win the game’s biggest events. Will he claw past Nicklaus? Will his body hold up to the physical pressure? And will his form remain intact to take on the best players in the game? We don’t have those answers just yet. But, we do know the chase to snare the Nicklaus record will provide plenty of drama. Stay tuned! Here’s to discovering golf and seeing the world.
