Striking shots from uneven lies may seem like an unfair way to play golf. (Surely the game’s tough enough!) However, with the right technique, including some subtle changes in setup, you’ll go a fair way to getting your game back on par. UPHILL LIE • Align your shoulders and hips parallel to the rising fairway. This enables you to swing with the uphill slope. • Play the ball forward in your stance. • Use a less-lofted club—a 5-iron instead of a 6-iron. The ball will tend to fly higher with the launch from the hill. • Aim slightly right of your target. The ball will tend to fly left. (opposite for left handers) DOWNHILL LIE • Align your shoulders and hips parallel to the falling fairway. This enables you to swing with the downhill slope. • Play the ball back in your stance. • Use a more-lofted club—a 6-iron instead of a 5-iron. The ball will tend to fly lower and roll further. • Aim slightly left of your target. The ball will tend to fly right. (opposite for left handers) PLAY BETTER. LOVE THE GAME!
