Discover Golf : April 2018
The 82nd Masters commenced with incredible hype and ended with another thrilling final round. America’s Patrick Reed prevailed at Augusta National writing his name in history as a major winner. For the most part, Reed wasn’t widely considered by the tipsters in the mix to win this year’s Green Jacket. After all, in four visits to Augusta, Reed had never finished better than in a tie for 22nd. Not withstanding that fact, most of the world’s top ranked players seemed better chances heading to Augusta with winning form under their belt. And past Masters champions Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods warranted consideration after showing signs of top form in recent weeks. To his credit, Reed absorbed the immense pressure of leading into the final round to produce a gritty 1-under 71 and hold off Rickie Fowler by one shot. Fowler shot 65 and 67 on the weekend including a dramatic birdie at the final hole. 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth nearly pulled off an unlikely win after starting the final round nine shots behind Reed. He finished just two shots back from Reed in outright third place. In this issue, we wrap up Reed’s breakthrough major win. And we cover victories to Satoshi Kodaira, Andrew Landry, Jon Rahm and Brooke Henderson. Here’s to discovering golf and seeing the world.
