The first priority is to establish a sound technique. See on this page for pitching fundamentals. Assuming your technique is on track, you can focus your attention on striking pitches to the distance required. Set out three or more markers on the practice fairway and begin playing shots to each of them. Maintain the same swing tempo for each shot, and simply change the length of your backswing and follow through in order to alter the distance of your shots. >> Achieve Your Goal Pitching Fundamentals These fundamentals will help you hit pitch shots with more precision: • Grip slightly down on the club. • Position the ball in the centre of your feet. • Distribute weight evenly on the balls of your feet. • Open your feet and shoulders slightly open to the target. • Hinge your wrists to 90 degrees onthe backswing. • Use your body turn to initiate the downswing. • Match the rotation of your backswing with your through swing. • Accelerate throughout the action.
