18 discovergolf.com.au Achieve Your Goal by Nadene Gole tip 60 Minutes Arrive at the course. Head to the locker room and spend 10 minutes performing a series of stretching exercises. This will prepare your body for your pre- round practice session and for the game itself. (Before starting a stretching program, it is important to seek the expertise of a specialist, who can guide you with the correct exercises to suit you). 50 Minutes With the body limbered up, it is time to warm up your golf swing. Aim to spend around 25 minutes at the range. Try to split this time between full swing and your short game. Grab a small bucket— remember it is the quality of the shot-making that is important with this preparation, not the quantity of hits. Start with short wedge shots and work through your bag to the driver. Then, wind down with a few short wedge shots to finish. Practise with a purpose. It is imperative that you strike each shot with the same care as you do on the course. Make sure you complete your pre- shot routine before each shot, rather than rushing through your session. Focus on your alignment, grip pressure and swing tempo. Move to the practice bunker and short game area. Chip, pitch and lob with different clubs to get a feel for the variety of shots you may face on the course. And blast some shots out of the practice bunker, especially if the course conditions have changed from the last time you played—due to heavy rain, for example. 25 Minutes Wrap up your pre-round practice session with 15 minutes on the putting green. Stroke a variety of putts: uphill, downhill, left-right, right-left, six footers, sixty footers. Focus on obtaining the feel for the speed of the greens. 10 Minutes Full of self-assurance knowing that your pre-game practice has prepared you for on-course success, stride confidently to the first tee. * In the event you arrive late to the course, with limited time to warm up, spend the time stretching first and then finish with putting. If you don’t get a feel for the speed of the greens, your round could start disastrously and be ruined after the opening two or three holes.
